ARDEX Makes a Splash!
ARDEX
UK, leading manufacturers of fast track construction
products, were pleased to be able to provide technical
support and products that were ideal for the job, when
they assisted one of their loyal partners in the trade
with a unique hydrotherapy pool refurbishment project.
Cerface
Limited Wall & Floor Tiling Contractors from Gillingham
in Kent were commissioned to refurbish the pool surround,
changing rooms and toilet areas of the Rectory Paddock
School hydrotherapy swimming pool.
This
was a technically challenging project as there were
a number of issues to address. These included ensuring
a safe, non slip surface was provided, elimination of
puddling around the pool surround and, due to an existing
underfloor heating system, extreme care was needed to
ensure that no pipes were ruptured whilst removing the
old screed.
The
refurbishment commenced by removing the existing vinyl
sheet floor covering and then ARDEX
S 21 bedding mortar was used, mixed with sharp sand,
to give a screeding mix to improve the falls to the
pool surround. ARDEX
S 21
mixed with sand provides a thin screed with rapid hardening
properties allowing walkability and tiling after only
three hours. Used neat ARDEX
S 21
can smooth and level up to 10mm in thickness.
Non-slip
ceramic tiles were fixed to the floor surround and cove
skirting at the perimeter of the pool. Cerface Limited
specified ARDEX-FLEX
5000 flexible tile adhesive, which alongside providing
significant savings over a traditional tile adhesive
and admix, has proved itself in a wide variety of new
pool and pool refurbishment projects. ARDEX-FLEX
5000
is suitable for use with all tile types including fully
vitrified, porcelain and may be used for external as
well as internal applications.
ARDEX-FLEX
FL rapid hardening, flexible grout with built-in
admix provided the perfect finish when used to grout
the tile joints. Downtime was minimised even further
as ARDEX-FLEX
FL
can be walked on after only 90 minutes.
ARDEX
S 21, ARDEX-FLEX
5000
and ARDEX-FLEX
FL
have been developed as the ideal trio to be used in
swimming pools, showers and wet areas for screeding,
fixing and grouting with product compatibility, cost
effectiveness and ease of use ensured.
'As
the hydrotherapy pool is such an integral element to
the Rectory School, completion on schedule was paramount,
and as expected, by utilising the ARDEX 'total system
solution' we were ensured a result that our client was
delighted with', said Chris Clark of Cerface Limited.
