Another Shopping Centre Enjoys the
ARDEX Experience
Having completed the refurbishment
of a number of prestigious shopping complexes, ARDEX
UK and Q Flooring Systems of Manchester have teamed
up once more to provide the perfect solution for a 2,500m²
refurbishment project at The Mall, Howgate in Falkirk,
Scotland.
As the shopping centre was to remain
open throughout the refurbishment process, efficient
overnight working practices and total product reliability
were prerequisites of the job. Having successfully utilised
ARDEX system solutions on many previous installations,
Q Flooring again specified ARDEX, confident in the knowledge
that they would meet the demanding time scale and performance
criteria.
To commence operations, Q Flooring removed the existing
screed and tiles within a vacuum assisted enclosure,
which was specifically erected in order to minimise
dust exposure. ARDEX
A 35 rapid drying cement for floor screeds was selected
to provide a flat, hard surface and due to the unique
ARDEX Rapidry Formula technology, the surface was ready
to be walked on in just 3 hours, with tiles being fixed
just 24 hours after application. With a traditional
cement/sand screed a wait of at least 3 weeks would
have been required prior to fixing tiles.

Quarella of Italy were fixed to the hard and dry ARDEX
A 35 screed using ARDEX-FLEX
S 38 flexible rapid hardening floor tile bedding
mortar. Key ARDEX-FLEX
S 38 benefits include superior adhesion properties,
pourable consistency, 30 minutes tile adjustability,
whilst still allowing the tiles to be walked on and
grouted 5 hours after application. For a perfect finish,
ARDEX-FLEX FL
rapid setting flexible grout with built-in admix was
used to grout the tile joints. The integrated fast track
tiling system from ARDEX ensured that the walkways were
ready on schedule for the expected thousands of daily
visitors to the shopping centre.
