ARDEX 'One Stop' Fast Track Tiling
Solutions
ARDEX
UK has proved the versatility of their range of fast
track construction products, by recently providing
the total screeding, fixing and grouting solution for
the floor surround and walls of a major swimming pool
refurbishment.
Long
standing and valued ARDEX customers, Cerface Limited
Wall & Floor Tiling Contractors from Gillingham
in Kent, benefited from the wealth of experience ARDEX
have in the swimming pools and leisure arena, when they
were commissioned by Thanet District Council to completely
refurbish the tiling surround area of the Hartsdown
Swimming Pool.
Once
the old floor surround tiles were removed, ARDEX
S 21 bedding mortar and sand was used to screed
the
pool
surround to give improved falls. ARDEX
S 21
was chosen as only a thin screed was required, and because
it has rapid hardening properties, the floor tiles could
be fixed at the earliest opportunity. 'Laying thin screeds
can be problematic, especially when tiles have to be
fixed soon after placing. ARDEX
S 21
provided a thin bed screed plus the much needed rapid
hardening time, allowing walkability and further work
after only 3 hours; it proved to be the ideal product
for the job', said Chris Clark of Cerface Limited.
Following
the application of the ARDEX
S 21
screed, 500m²
of new wall and floor tiles, supplied by Langley London
Ltd, were fixed using ARDEX-FLEX
5000 flexible tile adhesive. ARDEX-FLEX
5000 has the added benefit of having a built-in
admix, which provides a cost saving of up to 30% over
a traditional cement-based adhesive and separate admix.
A feature of the project was a cut tiled mural of a
rising sun, with dolphins and boats which was successfully
incorporated into the wall tiling at one end of the
pool hall.
The
final part of the total ARDEX system solution, ARDEX-FLEX
FL rapid setting flexible grout with built-in admix,
was used to grout the wall and floor tile joints. The
rapid hardening properties of ARDEX-FLEX
FL ensured that the floor tiles could be walked
on only 90 minutes after application making it ideal
for use in pools, showers, and kitchens where downtime
needs to be minimised.
