ARDEX provide industrial flooring
solution to British Nuclear Fuels
ARDEX, the name synonymous with
fast track industrial
toppings, teamed up with one of their valued partners
in the trade, national flooring contractors Fastrack
Flooring, to provide the perfect flooring solution on
behalf of British Nuclear Fuels at their Sellafield
Plant.
As part of the ongoing development
of the Sellafield site the drum stores, used for Uranium
storage, were enlarged to increase storage space. The
Uranium will be stored in four large 200 kilogram drums
stacked four high. Each floor will house approximately
2500 drums. When fully functional, the 2000m²
store will be operated via automatic guided vehicles,
ensuring the trouble free running of these vehicles
meant it was essential to achieve a perfectly flat and
level finish for the entire floor area.
Having used the ARDEX SD-T Industrial Floor System successfully on previous
projects, Fastrack Flooring had no hesitation specifying
the system as the ideal product to fulfil the demanding
time scale and performance criteria.
Following the application of
ARDEX P 51
primer, ARDEX SD-T
was pump applied to the four drum store locations, providing
a fluid, self-levelling mortar that dried and hardened
rapidly to provide a flat and hard wearing surface.
Because ARDEX SD-T
incorporates the unique ARDEX 'Rapidry Formula' technology
which binds the mix water within the mortar, further
work including the application of an epoxy resin coating
was started just 6 hours after application of the ARDEX SD-T. With the self-levelling properties of ARDEX SD-T and the application skills of Fastrack Flooring
the floor was levelled to a standard high enough to
comply with FM1 of the Concrete Society Specification
TR34 for concrete industrial ground floors.
'By utilising ARDEX SD-T Industrial Floor System once again, we could
guarantee the success of this prestigious and technically
challenging project. By combining the professionalism
of our team with the products and support from ARDEX
both we and British Nuclear Fuels were delighted with
the superb result achieved within a very tight schedule'
said Phil Shannon of Fastrack Flooring.
