ARDEX Gets a Glowing Report at New Academy
ARDEX UK, premier manufacturers of high performance flooring products, teamed up with flooring contractor Sandafloor Limited of Gateshead, to provide over 3,500m² of flooring underlayments for the new £36 million Bede Academy in Northumberland.
Bede Academy opened in September 2009, and is The Emmanuel Schools Foundation’s first 3-18 school with Nursery, Primary and Secondary provision across two sites in Blyth on the Northumberland coast. Specialising in Engineering and Enterprise, the school will focus on extending conventional perceptions of engineering by providing specialist insights into aspects of biotechnology, environmental science and recycling technologies, sound and computer network engineering, medical and animal science, and naval and automotive systems and design. Sir Peter Vardy's Emmanuel Schools Foundation sponsors three other schools, Emmanuel College in Gateshead, The King's Academy in Middlesbrough and Trinity Academy in Thorne, Doncaster.
To commence, the classrooms and laboratories received ARDEX DPM 1 C One Coat Surface Damp Proof Membrane. Due to its high inherent strength and an excellent bond, it has established as the industry’s leading one coat DPM system. ARDEX DPM 1 C is easy to apply, fast curing and can accommodate Hygrometer readings up to 98% RH. It is also totally compatible with ARDEX’s range of commercial systems, making it a versatile DPM as it is suitable for a variety of environments.
ARDITEX RS PLUS Rapid Setting, Low Odour Latex Sub-Floor Levelling and Smoothing Compound was then applied to the cured DPM, resulting in a flat and smooth finish. ARDITEX RS PLUS is highly regarded by contractors, specifiers and end users as a cost effective solution with excellent properties of adhesion and water resistance. Due to its rapid setting properties, ARDITEX RS PLUS is able to receive final floorcoverings in just 6 hours*, and is suitable for use on sub-floors such as concrete, cement and sand screeds, terrazzo and quarry tiles etc.
Sandafloor Limited were delighted to be commissioned by the main contractors, Surgo Construction Limited, to complete the flooring stages of this prestigious new education facility. By working with ARDEX, they were able to assure their client that the flooring stages would be completed with a fast track, cost effective solution, and one that has been proven to meet the demands of an educational environment.
