High Speed Performers for Barbican
Centre
The Barbican Centre required
a new durable 'concrete style' surface for the existing
cement/sand screed in the Concourse Gallery to compliment
the newly refurbished area. This resulted in the specification
of ARDEX K 15
self-levelling sub-floor smoothing compound, with the
addition of ARDEX
E 25 mortar admixture by
John Pawson architects.
With the associated problems of shutting
down a busy area for any length of time the ARDEX
K 15 was chosen for it’s rapid drying and hardening
attributes alongside a first class track record when
being pumped, the incorporation of ARDEX
E 25 admix further enhancing
the performance. The versatile nature of these products
ensured the elimination of the height constraints and
drying times that would have been associated with the
use of concrete.
The application of the pumped materials
was successfully completed by Sanjo Flooring Services
Ltd. with an m-tec PD100 pump, provided and operated
by Markham (Sheffield) Ltd. Although the programme was
tight for the application of the ARDEX
K 15/ARDEX E
25 system, Sanjo Flooring completed on time and
the Concourse Gallery re-opened as planned.
