Principal Flooring Contractors Rely
on ARDEX
ARDEX UK were delighted to team up
with one of the country's premier flooring contractors,
Q Flooring Systems of Manchester, to provide the complete
flooring and tiling refurbishment system to 8,500m²
of the Arndale Shopping Centre.
When it comes to working under strict
time pressures ARDEX products are second to none, making
them the best choice for the Arndale Centre. As the
centre is open seven days a week, it meant work needed
to be completed during the night, ensuring that commercially
important shopping hours remained uninterrupted.
The project commenced by initially
removing the existing ceramic tiles to ascertain the
condition of the existing floor screed, which was an
ARDEX A 35 Screed,
originally laid in the mid 1980's. Despite being over
15 years old, the existing ARDEX
A 35 Screed was still sound, a testimony to its
proven durability and performance.
ARDEX
A 35 MIX, a pre-blended, rapid screed repair and
screeding mortar was applied to the existing floor screed
to patch repair any damage incurred during the removal
of the existing tiling.
A fluid, free-flowing layer of ARDEX
K 13 levelling compound, ideal for the rapid resurfacing
and levelling of existing concrete floors and screeds,
was applied directly to the ARDEX
A 35 Screed screed at approximately 1.5mm thick,
to provide a smooth flat surface. The rapid drying properties
of ARDEX K 13
meant it could be walked on 2 hours after application
and was ready to receive a floorcovering the following
night. During trading hours, carpet tiles were temporarily
laid on the hardened ARDEX
K 13 for pedestrians to walk on.
Polished stone tiles were fixed to
the newly smoothed surface using ARDEX-FLEX
S 38 rapid hardening floor tile bedding mortar.
The excellent adhesion properties, pourable consistency
and 30 minutes tile adjustability time enabled the stone
tiles to be solid bedded swiftly and easily. To conclude
the total ARDEX system, ARDEX-FLEX
FL rapid setting flexible tile grout with built-in
admix was chosen, its rapid hardening properties ensured
the walkways were ready for pedestrians only 90 minutes
after application.
Dave Robinson of Q Flooring said 'Due
to the restrictive timetable we had to ensure the completion
of the designated stages each night. We are commissioned
for many large blue chip company flooring installations
and we know that when under pressure, ARDEX products
perform first time, every time, to ensure that we consistently
meet the challenges we undertake'.
