New Leisure Centre Enjoys the ARDEX
Tiling Solution
The excellent reputation of ARDEX
products and the professionalism of P. Plunkett Tiling
Contractors combined to provide the total tiling solution
for a new swimming pool complex, health spa and changing
room facilities at the Willowburn Sports and Leisure
Centre in Alnwick, Northumberland.
Ceramic tiles throughout the 'state
of the art' 25 metre swimming pool, were fixed using
ARDEX-FLEX
5001 flexible tile adhesive. Developed with a built-in
admix, savings over a conventional cement-based adhesive
plus separate admix were enjoyed, alongside enhanced
adhesion and excellent slump resistance.
The tile joints were then grouted
with epoxy-based ARDEX
WA grout. Easy to apply and clean off, ARDEX
WA provides a waterproof and chemically resistant
joint from 2-12mm wide. These features make it the economical
and ideal choice for use in swimming pools, showers,
sports centres and other specialised buildings where
high standards of hygiene and cleanliness are required.
The non-slip floor tiles throughout
the pool surround, health spa and changing room facilities
were solid bedded utilising ARDEX-FLEX
S38 flexible, rapid hardening floor tile bedding
mortar. The pourable consistency of ARDEX-FLEX
S38 provides easier application for the solid bedding
of all types of tile including porcelain and mosaics.
Due to inherent rapid hardening properties, the tile
joints were ready for grouting just 5 hours later, again
using the versatile ARDEX
WA epoxy-based grout.
The wall tiles were also fixed with
ARDEX-FLEX
5001 flexible tile adhesive and the joints grouted
with ARDEX-FLEX
FS grout. Flexibility, water repellence and dirt
resistance made ARDEX-FLEX
FS the perfect ARDEX product for the leisure centre.
