The leading manufacturer of premium quality flooring systems, ARDEX UK teamed up with PCS Flooring of Liverpool to deliver a high performance flooring solution for a prestigious new store on behalf of one of the High Street’s most revered names, John Lewis. The new John Lewis store is the anchor store of the Grand Arcade scheme in Cambridge’s city centre, featuring 5 floors of fashion, furniture and homewares, as well as a fitted kitchen department and beauty studio, and an espresso bar and brasserie. Expecting many visitors each day it was vital that a cost effective and hard wearing flooring solution was specified to meet the demands of this busy retail outlet. Where there was a need to deep fill floor levels, ARDEX K 15-B was used as it is an advanced and cost efficient levelling compound designed for thicker levelling applications from 7mm up to 35mm. ARDEX Rapidry Formula technology ensures ARDEX K 15-B dries and hardens rapidly so that even thick applications will be hard enough to walk on after 2 hours and after smoothing will accept floorcoverings within 24 hours. The market leading water-based self-levelling smoothing compound, ARDEX K 15 was applied as a top layer to the ARDEX K 15-B, to provide a superior flat and smooth finish. The versatility and ease of application of ARDEX products is highlighted with ARDEX K 15, as it can be trowel or pump applied and provides rapid drying and hardening times combining speed and performance. Part of the newly developed store incorporates an existing building, where ARDEX FEATHER FINISH was used to smooth and patch repair the existing plywood floors. Proven within the retail sector to deliver rapid and cost effective results, ARDEX DPM was applied to some of the floor areas to provide a membrane with high inherent strength and an excellent bond. ARDEX DPM adheres to saturated surface dry concrete and is totally compatible with ARDEX's range of commercial flooring systems. Over 4,000m² of carpet tiles within various locations throughout the store, including shopping areas, coffee shop and brasserie, were fixed with ARDEX AF 890 Surface Tackifier. Odourless when dry with a short drying time and permanent tack, ARDEX AF 890 is equally effective when roller or spray applied. Non-slip safety flooring was installed to 'back of house' with ARDEX AF 100 Pressure Sensitive Acrylic Flooring Adhesive. Benefits of ARDEX AF 100 include high yield, low odour and compatibility with under floor heating systems. Specifically designed for the UK flooring market, ARDEX AF 100 incorporates the latest floorcovering adhesive technology, and is increasingly recognised by architects, specifiers and contractors as the most advanced true pressure sensitive adhesive available in the UK. To complete, ARDEX AF 650 Heavy Duty Contact Adhesive was used to fix nosings. A heavy duty neoprene contact adhesive, ideal for fixing PVC and rubber floorcoverings, stair nosings, PVC skirting, stair stringers and cork with natural cork backing, ARDEX AF 650 is easy to apply and offers a permanent bond. Mark Hughes of PCS Flooring commented, “Due to the varying flooring requirements within this 8,000m² project, we wanted to utilise a ‘single system’ that would enable high performance, with fast track, reliable results. ARDEX are renowned for their ‘system solution’ product range and this performance, coupled with their outstanding track record within the retail sector assured a superb result for this prestigious new John Lewis store”.
