ARDEX UK, world leaders in premium performance tile fixing products and support services, have recently provided the complete natural stone fixing and grouting solution for a very special renovation project on the Isle of Wight. Landscape designer Phillippa Lambert rediscovered the site, which comprises of a two-acre lake and walled garden complex and originally formed the landscape of a significant Victorian seaside residence located in the ‘Undercliff’ at St Lawrence. The innovative project, proposed the construction of a ‘contemporary styled’ house alongside the restoration of the Old Park lake and gardens. Once completed, the site will be open on demand, and without charge, to schools, special needs groups and for charity fund-raising events. To commence the project, Albion Stones’ Ancaster Rose 400mm x 400mm Limestone tiles were fixed on the ground floor, utilising ARDEX S 16 W white rapid hardening and drying wall and floor tile and natural stone adhesive, in conjunction with ARDEX P 51 Primer. ARDEX S 16 W is especially suitable for fixing limestone, translucent tiles, mosaics and marble, due to built-in ARDEX ‘Rapidry Formula Technology’, which virtually eliminates the risk or water staining and enables tiles to be grouted or trafficked only 2 hours after fixing. For the wet room, the floor area was treated with ARDEX WPC, which provided a waterproof protection coat prior to the fixing of the limestone tiles with ARDEX S 16 W and ARDEX E 90. ARDEX WPC is specially designed for domestic or commercial tiling applications where speed is of the essence, since tile fixing can commence just 2 hours after application of the second waterproof coat. The wet room wall tiles were also fixed with ARDEX S 16 W in conjunction with ARDEX E 90 admixture. All of the tiles were grouted with ARDEX MG limestone grout, which is a unique rapid drying marble and natural stone grout. This product is ideal for grouting natural stone tiles as it virtually eliminates the risk of water staining at the tile edge and allows tiles to be walked on only 90 minutes after application. To complete this fascinating project, the external ground floor porch tiles were fixed with ARDEX-FLEX 5000 white flexible tile adhesive and grouted with ARDEX-FLEX FS flexible and dirt resistant tile grout. "Haddon Lake House is an incredibly challenging new build project and we needed to ensure that we utilised compatible, high performance products throughout. Not only did ARDEX's unique natural stone systems perform brilliantly, but their enthusiastic support and technical advice proved invaluable", commented Phillippa Lambert.
